Quantitative Ecologist

TEACHING & MENTORSHIP
How can open science and hands-on ecology move students from observation to ecological inference?
My teaching emphasizes active learning, field experience, quantitative reasoning, and open science. I give students opportunities to work with real ecological data and use the same analytical approaches employed in contemporary research. Students move from developing questions and evaluating ecological patterns to testing hypotheses and communicating evidence-based conclusions through transparent and reproducible workflows.
I bring this approach into both the classroom and research mentorship. I have designed and taught upper-level courses in environmental biology and environmental management and mentored undergraduate and graduate students across community science, wildlife ecology, habitat associations, rewilding, and biodiversity monitoring. My goal is to help students progress toward increasingly independent, research-level analyses, with several mentored projects contributing to peer-reviewed publications.
TALKS & CONFERENCES
Sharing ecological research across scientific and professional audiences.
I present research at scientific conferences and professional meetings spanning applied wetland ecology, community science, and spatial biodiversity. Recent presentations have included work on wading-bird responses to hydrologic conditions in South Florida and the use of community-science datasets to understand ecological patterns across broad spatial scales.
These meetings provide opportunities to exchange ideas with researchers, conservation practitioners, and environmental managers, and to connect quantitative ecological results with questions of biodiversity monitoring, restoration, and management.
